En aquesta obra estudiarem com es tradueixen en anglès els verbs catalans en temps subjuntiu que apareixen en subordinades de complementació, és a dir, subordinades encapçalades per la conjunció que. En són exemples les frases següents:

| Evitarà que guanyin els altres (It will keep the others from winning). |
| Faré que te les doni (I'll have him give them to you). |
Com es veu en aquests exemples, els verbs de les subordinades catalanes es tradueixen de maneres diverses en anglès. Per tant, organitzarem en vuit grups els verbs catalans que accepten subordinades de complementació segons la manera en què es tradueixen en anglès els verbs de les subordinades.
Heus aquí les vuit classificacions que farem servir en aquest estudi:

| Això implica que els homes es tractin com a unitats de producció. This implies that men are treated as units of production. Això implicava/implicaria que fins l'endemà no es fes res. This (implied / would imply) that nothing would be done until the next day. |
